It is clear, and the stars are shining...but the wind is fierce and I will be resting inside where it’s calm and warm. See you soon, night sky...I hope!

Sometimes you break trail on the climb up Alligator Hill, and the 2 mile trek feels more like a 5 mile slog. But with a bench at the top overlooking this view, it’s worth it - doubly so on a bluebird day!
Tiny icebergs (affectionately known as “pancake ice”) bob gently in the calm waters of Lake Michigan.

Right place, right time. Occasionally I plan an image. I look at maps, plot sunrise locations, and stalk the light. More often I visit places I like that I haven’t been in a while and hope to find something photo-worthy. So it was last Sunday, driving around Leelanau County’s badly drifting roads that this unfolded. I was on the road, between stops, when I stopped in the road agape at the fiery spotlight on the dune climb. I had no idea that this was the shot I was after, but recognizing it for the magical fleeting moment it was, I pressed the shutter.

Yesterday’s sunrise brought warm sun, lake smoke, and waterfowl taking flight. In short, it was perfect.

Not many days that the lake is like this. It’s mesmerizing. I’d stay and watch through sunset if I had eaten anything since 7:45 🤦🏻♀️
