Mornings like today it was overcast and gray. But when you can find a hole in the clouds and climb above into the shimmering cloudscape it becomes a different world!

Once in a while after a snow storm when the light is right I fly through these cool little clouds of ice crystals glittering in the sun... this morning was one of those mornings. So grateful for some snow in the high desert!!!
It’s a good day to remember our love for the earth and what comes from her daily to survive and thrive... air, water, food... basically everything! .
So much love and gratitude to my wife Lisa @lisalove758 and daughter Alaia who mean the world to me and love and support me through all of it! They are the ones that keep me connected and grounded to this world when I stay up in the sky too long..Happy valentines😊💜
Big thanks to @chrisburkard, @renan_ozturk, @sonyalpha and many others for telling my story and working with so much dedication and inspiration on this project!
The big question now for all of us is how do we listen to what the earth needs and adjust our ways of thinking and living so our children and future generations can thrive in a cleaner, more peaceful and just world for all of us earthlings? Quite the adventure!

Last week I had an interesting flight home from Blanding, Utah to Taos. Usually when I fly this distance I land and take a break somewhere and it takes about 5 hours. After studying the winds aloft I made a plan to fly east and a little north to Telluride to catch a nice ride home with a favorable wind along the edge of the awesome San Juan range. After fighting a crosswind for two hours at about 50 mph to get to Telluride I finally got to turn Southeast with the wind. My trike and I started zipping along at over 100 mph ground speed between the La Plata Mountains and the San Juans at over 16,000 feet. It was great to see the San Juans from a new angle and before I know it I was over Pagosa Springs. In a little over an hour and a half I had made it from Telluride to Taos. Gotta love a nice tailwind! The first shot is the little town of Dove Creek with the La Sal range in the background. Number two is the Wilson Group of peaks in the San Miguels with Telluride in the distance on the right. The third image is somewhere deep in the San Juan Needles. #tailwind#utah#colorado#fantastic_earth
The goosenecks of the San Juan river sit on the southwestern edge of the Bears Ears National Monument. The geology here is jaw-dropping and when we flew over it we realized we needed to be a few thousand feet higher to get a perspective. Speaking of perspective, we met some super friendly and helpful locals at the Blanding airport and began to realize that this whole issue of the National Monument is very complex. Quite a few locals didn’t want the National Monument status to begin with and cited issues of losing rights to watersheds and generations old grazing lands as a result of the Monument. It wasn’t as black and white as we assumed and we came away feeling how important it is not to judge each other for different opinions based on our completely different backgrounds and perspectives of the world...but instead to start from a place of mutual respect and listen to each other’s stories and opinions so that real communication and solutions can be possible. One of the highlights for me was collaborating and learning with @renan_ozturk@taylorfreesolo@filmguppy and my friend and fellow pilot @joeraven74 as we tried to wrap our heads around this massive area called and Bears Ears and figure out a safe way to mount a huge camera and gimbal on the trike to capture the beauty of this place! @shotovercamera#utah#blanding#bearsears

These two mesas in the background are where the Bears Ears gets its name. From Blanding area they look like ears and a head and from other angles they look like 2 big ears with flat tops. This was a great sunset flight with @renan_ozturk@taylorfreesolo@joeraven74 and @filmguppy. Really great to collaborate with this crew!! Thanks @shotovercamera for making it an epic endeavor!! Your gimbal is amazing!

Today we flew along Comb Ridge in the Bears Ears as the sun was coming up. After over 7 hours of flying this area in the last 2 days we are more and more amazed by the variety of incredible terrain...What a pleasure to experience this strange and beautiful corner of the earth!

The Bears Ears National Monument in Utah is unbelievably vast and full of nooks and crannies with not much road access... flying over it gives you a sense of scale still it seems massive! Today we flew a small part of it called Arch Canyon for sunrise and sunset where there are rock towers over 900 feet tall! This is a special place like none other.
