Dreaming about SUP tomorrow which will be my first SUP of 2018... got a new one rep max on my deadlift today: 225 lbs. Wow, that was heavy. And swam 3500 yards. Great day!

As I reflect on my January 20-26 Galápagos SwimTrek trip, I am filled with wonder. To swim in the clear cold waters amidst schools of brightly colored fish, sharks, sea lions, swimming iguanas, and sea turtles was my peak experience as an open water swimmer. We swam 20 km (12.5 miles) over 5 days just off the uninhabited islands of Santa Fe, Pinzon, Daphne Major, Tortuga, and Los Hermanos. In a less world-changing result as Darwin’s, my time in the Galápagos has truly inspired me to think differently about the world and, in doing so, profoundly changed me.

Happy New Year! Nothing starts my year off better than my Raleigh LifeTime Athletic’s Commitment Day 5K. I intended to walk but the 17 degree temps forced me to run now and then to stay warm. Great event!
FIRST Solo winter SUP! All about testing my new gear in 50 degree air temp, 51 water temp, and windy conditions. After I was done, I waded into the water waist high to see how cold I’d get. Got real cold. Always experimenting so that I’m ready for @lyfsup and the NC ‘Ho’omau paddlers at Jordan Lake.

My first “winter SUP” experience: water temp 58f, air temp 60f, no laughing please! I was plenty warm in my new @nrsweb gear for a two hour paddle with the multi talented Allison of @lyfsup who had the idea, took the photos, and kept me smiling & laughing all afternoon.

I had the best time yesterday with my niece and nephews watching my team play pretty well...we never stopped believing (until we had to 😊). Go blue forever!

Running? Yikes! I have to! I’m training for Lifetime Fitness’s Raleigh Rush strength competition in early January and will have to run “all out” on a treadmill for 10 minutes in addition to the strength events. Many thanks to @haimesfitness for getting me into this and to @communitygym for helping me prepare. Of course, I still managed a 3500 yard #swim and a #strengthtraining session today.

Final set of deadlifts yesterday was 4 @ 190 lbs followed by 1 x 205 lbs just because I needed a PB. My strength training session was preceded by a 3000 yard swim and followed by a 90 minute yoga class. Real physical transformation requires an obsession with consistency.
