Monotony and Repetition, the First and Last Technique.
Monotony helps you to reduce the many to the one, and thus to clear extraneous thoughts and superficial actions from the field of your body/mind. Repeating helps you befriend the shape by giving form, body, personality, uniqueness, and individuality to it. Monotony is a mind and energy focuser, a simplifier that helps you target your efforts. Engaging your body and mind in the monotonous task helps you rend the veil of illusion and see the variety and the infinite consciousness that exists in what appears to be merely doing the same thing again.
Repetition shows you there is no repetition, there is only constant change. Repetition gives you an ability to detect differences between similar things that you could not previously detect. By repetition you learn to love what is new and different in each try. With a proper bodily orientation and a disposition of curiosity you can train your self to learn by the process of repeating-- instead of merely repeating. To learn from repeating is not automatic it is necessary to make a vow to extract newness from sameness and then do the most routine things with attention, care, and skill—place high value on the tiniest of hatha yoga tasks. The gestures, actions and positions that you do thousands upon thousands of times are the objects that you use to create Ekagrata or One Pointed Attention and climb the staircase of hatha yoga to the high pinnacled Raja Yoga (Royal Meditation Seat). •
Repetition and monotony are the only technique that remain when you whittle down and discard each lesser, superficial technique. The purpose of all movement, variety, and dynamism is to prepare you to invite and enjoy repetition and monotony and these prepare you to see boundless freedom and infinite possibility when you are bound up in the single meditation seat. ❤ •
|| Find the ones who support your breath. || The Bay Area has become a special place for me over these past few years. I’ve found there another kind of home, with a small group of given and chosen family, and opportunities for extraordinary connections and personal exploration.
It’s a place and people that hold me in the ways that few can or do. Each time I’m there I’m reminded of the importance of finding one’s tribe, those people who want to, and will, support one’s breath—the deepest and most essential parts of ourselves.
And when I return, I feel more appreciative of the other people and places in my life that support me in the same ways.
Feeling much gratitude today for my little tribe, my homes, my place among the verdant greens.
Want to see what it takes to get these kind of photos. My good friend @danieldearco has YouTube channel where he document our whole day, go check out. I don't know why I look so pissed but I think it's pretty funny 😂 as always having a great time picking up @little_beastmode .
Both wearing @aloyoga
It’s not the art itself it’s an artist. We don’t need to show a single photograph or write a word to be an artist. It radiates in everything we do. If it touches heart and makes you want to return then it’s an artist.
It takes not much time to learn to draw or write or photograph but it takes a lifetime to craft a soul and character that is worth sharing through art. I can name two or three people whose art saved my life. It wasn’t the photos or drawings or stuff that normally considered as art. It was something they made me feel that made me stay and keep going and keep creating myself. Wherever you are there is a creative power. Make art.

Hi yogis! We hope 2018 is off to a wonderful start for all of our Yogafusion family. The start of the year has been very productive for us, and we've had to get pretty good at multitasking! We've been busy planning lots of new and exciting opportunities for 2018.
Our month of mindfulness has kicked off and we're so glad to see everyone benefiting from the workshops already. It’s not too late to make the most of these sessions, with two workshops still available to explore the benefits of mindfulness this January.
In February, we're excited to announce we'll be holding another series of workshops, this time focusing on Acro Yoga - a fun way to incorporate acrobatics into the yoga poses we know so well! Led by Adelaide-born traveling yoga teacher Zara, these workshops are a great way to challenge yourself and discover new ways to benefit from your practice.
Exciting things are on the horizon for March as well, with our fabulous teacher Leisa bringing her skills as a Thai massage therapist and accomplished yogi to introduce yoga massage to Yogafusion. Keep an eye out for more details very soon!
And we're bursting with excitement for a BIG announcement we'll be sharing very soon - stay tuned! 😮😮😮
It's an exciting time at the studio, and we're so happy to have you all along for the journey.
-Amy and Simon
🌱🍃 ‘I water you. You water me. We grow together.’ 💙 Forever trading tricks & monkeying around with the badass @rasalila 🌞 This was our first attempt. It wasn’t what we were expecting but it looked & felt pretty cool. We tried it again right after & it just wasn’t happening. Soo here’s one magical moment marked in time for now. ✌️

How to 🙃
I first practiced (left) when I started to learn this pose! 🐻
This is the perfect preparation pose if you're not confident to do the full pose!
🔹 From , drop your gaze down and slowly lower your crown of the head down on the mat, creating the triangle shape with your hands🔺
🔹 Keep your knees on your triceps, lift your hips over the head. POINT YOUR TOES to create uplifting energy ⬆️
🔹 LIFT your SHOULDERS BLADES UP ⬆️ and ROOT YOUR CROWN OF THE HEARD DOWN to lengthene your NECK 🙌
🔹 Relax and hold a few breath. Only if you feel comfortable, unfold your knees up. Make sure you scoop your TAIL BONE IN 👌
🔹 Hold for a few breath, and extend your feet up slowly only if you feel comfortable.
⚠️I see many students rush into the final pose, but never rush, take your time! Because we really need to be calm to make each movement mindful especially in any inversion.
And alignment comes from the bottom up. So make sure your foundation is solid and stable each time before you move into next step! 🙆
I'll talk about more details for the neck and arm alignment on the next post😘

#AYearOfYoga2018 Day 16
Gosh, I get light headed and nauseous in this intense bound revolved standing fold. I definitely felt like a #corkscrew twisting and twisting while pushing through the chest and projecting outward. Despite warming up with twists, I had to practice this pose several times on each side, holding it longer and twisting more to find the opening through the whole spine and shoulders, as well as balance without feeling like I had vertigo. This #twist may be on the same level as Marichyasana D with the foot flushed against the intestinal organs. The left pic is from a year ago. Tonight, I am able to bind above my wrist. I am more rotated and my shoulders more open due to more projection of the chest outward. I can hold this pose longer while breathing as I continue to wring myself empty. I practiced this on both sides. The bind gets better with each warmup attempt and hold. This is not a pose I practice regularly as I opt for the marichyasanas but I will #keeppracticing it.

After my last post about the hips there were a lot of requests for me to talk about the shoulders. Turn up the volume as I explain everything there. The shoulder joint complex is indeed complex 🤔. For many people it is a problematic area, particularly in an age where we have such poor postural patterns - in this case the rounded forward shoulder pattern. So first and foremost is to correct postural patterns. Then start prehabbing or rehabbing the shoulder joint complex. I really believe that the yoga Asana practice can be significantly enhanced and the chance of injuries significantly reduced if we take the time to gain control of these movement patterns. If you scroll through to the end I show how to connect these exercises to Chaturanga Dandasana. 🙏

Day 14/365 Handstand.
Trying to find the line again. When I video my practice from the side, I get frustrated when I get my balance but the line looks bad. It's constant work playing with both the balance, feel effortless and at the same time trying to find a good handstand line.

. . .
My biggest privilege in life is to be your mom @aneleh_r
Love you infinitely ♋
