Been 6 months since my surgery - The injured leg is still about 2cm smaller around the thigh. There’s still swelling at times, but mostly gone. The range of motion is great but strength still only about 60% because of the pain at bend, fucking sucks. Week by week I feel it slowly going away and I get that 1% better little by little... this has def been the biggest patience challenge in my life. I’ve been back at the gym for leg exercises only, that allows me to isolate the one leg and build it alone since the bicycle is even power. The gym is great for strength but I feel pathetic cuz it hurts A LOT to do a small fraction of what I’m used to... another patience test, pain is the meter. I’m supposed to be running but I don’t trust it just yet... I used to eat red meat about 4-5x a week before I got hurt. After surgery I didn’t eat red meat for 2 months and I gotta say.. felt GREAT to just eat white meat and explore fish a bit more. Ive backed off a lot since, I enjoy a nice steak or burger but I’ve only been eating it a couple times a month if that. Cycling made me focus on my diet more (also eat a lot more), and I’ve honestly been feeling super strong, prob even more than before - My conditioning is great, I’m gaining good muscle mass, around 165lbs now (155 when I crashed) still low fat, growing out of my pants.
I guess the lesson is to use these shitty painful moments to make you even stronger. Mental discipline brings psychical strength. Definitely gonna stick to this lifestyle thru my life, I’ve been working HARD and I know riding the motorcycle is gonna feel even more amazing than before - SOON!!!
