❥Today we’re reflecting upon Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. because it’s #MLK day here in the #USA.
For many, it’s a day off from work. We’re freelance, so we don’t follow that schedule, but we’re grateful for the reminder to reflect on such an important historical figure. A man who made a difference through words and action.
We believe that as travelers we have a responsibility to do more than just visit a place and take pictures and have a good time. We believe that travelers play a vital role in breaking down the barriers of prejudice and xenophobia.
Colombia was a very unique and challenging travel experience for us as Americans. We felt the conflict of past actions of others affecting us as white visitors. We understood it, but it made us think about the ripples of everyone’s actions. And how can we move forward without love and tolerance?
2017 was a year filled with events that prove just how much we all need to come together to work for PEACE+RESPECT for one another.
So we’ll leave you with our favorite MLK quote:
“I refuse to accept the view that mankind is so tragically bound to the starless midnight of racism and war that the bright daybreak of peace and brotherhood can never become a reality… I believe that unarmed truth and unconditional love will have the final word.”
- Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

How awesome is it when your best friend from 8th grade is in the same town as you on the same day! Yes we’re tired from our day of running around but, we make time! Meeting up and have great food, talking politics, future travels, doing good for the world, and evolving as human beings is what keeps our bond so strong. Surround yourself with positivity! Mont Saint-Michel low key kinda looks like Rohan. And if you get that reference just know that I appreciate you. This island commune in France has held strategic fortifications since ancient times and since the 8th century AD has been the seat of the monastery from which it draws its name.

Being in Finland the day the country celebrated its 100 years of independence was an amazing coincidence that led to a great day! It was so unique to see Finns out and about all day and to learn about Finnish independence day traditions. The flag display in Market Square was one of my favorite sights of the day. Market Square is also where you take the ferry to Suomenlinna Island, one of my favorite sights in Finland. It was a great day celebrating Finland, and I can't wait to visit again!⠀

Discover Aqsunqur Mosque in Cairo, Egypt with @youssefanwar.
The Blue Mosque, or Aqsunqur Mosque, is an exceptional example of early Mamluk religious architecture, and the largest mosque in the Bab al-Wazir district of Cairo. Built in 1347 by Amir Aqsunqur, it incorporates a mausoleum and impressive courtyard for prayer. Its aesthetic reflects the Ottoman Style, especially in the Iznik tiles depicting cypress trees and vases holding tulips. Discover more of Cairo in Edition 29 of The Discoverer.
