Wine of the Week! 2011 Pirita Red Blend. Winemaker Charlotte Allen aka “Carlota” worked & traveled all over Europe for many years to learn from the very best winemakers. Exposed to new technical forms of winemaking, she studied viticulture & watched endlessly the pros in action. Ready to pursue her dream, an acquaintance suggested she set up her estate in Spain where life is easier & less expensive. He told her of an undiscovered area on the border of Portugal. A land almost forgotten & away from everything, she fell in love with the beauty of this rugged & difficult region. The rest is history. Carlota is the ONLY female winemaker in the Arribes del Duero DO. Pirita is a Spanish blend of many interesting grapes like Juan Garcia, rufete, bastardillo serrano & verdejo colorado to name a few. She focuses on minerality, freshness, & acidity. Carlota produces Pirita in white and red and now sells them all over the world. Only 250 cases were made of the 2011 vintage. This wine needs a little time to open but when she’s ready you will know. Violets and flowers, red fruits & lingering minerality. A true gem.
Cheers to you Carlota! 🍷❤️
Today we are jumping coasts to show you Castello di Amorosa. Located in the northern reaches of #californialove ’s wine country #NapaValley, the beautiful Castello di Amorosa can be deceiving: while at first glance it looks like a 13th century castle straight out of #Tuscany, it was actually constructed over a 14-year period and officially opened its doors in 2007. Designed by owner and fourth generation winemaker #Dario#Sattui as a winery, Castello di Amorosa is surrounded by acres of vineyards producing award-winning Italian-style wines. Featuring 107 rooms, most of which are used for winemaking, Castello di Amorosa includes a drawbridge, a great hall with replica Italian frescoes and even its own dungeon and torture chamber. Be sure to visit this amazing castle when you drive through #WineCountry. #tapestsrylove#castles#castlesarerad#californialove

Last night some of our donors and board members toured the @pressdemo’s production plant with publisher Steve Falk. It was fascinating to see behind the scenes. We treasure our local newspaper and value their continued support for healthcare in our region as one of our Wine Country Cares partners.
This March @bullseyebrewco, Rye and I are taking a California road trip vacation. We head to LA to drop Rye off with the in-laws, head to San Diego for a few days of beaching and beering, pick him back up and then head to San Luis Obispo to visit some wineries (one of them is @malenewines who has a tasting room out of airstream trailer, which is pretty freaking cool). #ad
Feels like all of our vacations take place in California, but thankfully there’s so much to see and do here. Especially in SLO!
This is what I will be sipping on tonight! I’m thinking I need a cheeseboard to go along with it. Any favorite pairings with Rosé??
