Such a fantastic evening! I went to stumblefoot brewery in San Marcos to see the Billy Yang film "the why: running 100 miles". His original intention with this film was to explain to non runners why someone would choose to run 100 miles. If you're curious, look it up on YouTube and you can watch it 👍. In a nutshell, we all have our why (even if we haven't run an ultra). The major theme I was hearing (and agree) is that we run to feel alive. My heart pounding from ascending that hill, rewarded with an amazing view. You can truly feel yourself living. What's your why?
Elevation culture made these awesome medals that everyone received 😍. I finally got to meet Jenny. Meeting ultra runner (and ultra inspiring!) Angela Shartel was a real thrill - oddly enough we both drove all the way to San Marcos but we both live an hour south near Mission Trails 🤣 hoping to bump into her in mtrp one of these days
Training is not just physical, but also mental.
There are days where you feel like you can’t face getting up to run in the wind and the cold or face the gym, small niggles are accentuated by the mind to feel bigger than they are, your brain goes into protect mode and tells you to go back to sleep.
But in those days you HAVE to get up, MAKE yourself move, one foot in front of the other, one rep at a time. If you don’t, you will be physically in debt, you will put yourself behind.
When you DO gain momentum, it doesn’t matter what the distance, it doesn’t matter how many reps, you are going through the motions and inadvertently training your mind and body to work when they don’t want to.
You are that much closer to your goal, and you are that much stronger, because that training is in the bank, and it adds up with everything else you do that week, to push you forward.
NEVER GIVE UP.
Set yourself a New Years Resolution to get out and run? But not really sure where to start.. check out my top tips for those new to running [Link in Bio]
Don’t be scared to just go out there.. everyone has to start somewhere. 2 and a half years ago I’d never have even considered a marathon.. and here I am representing @runnersworlduk and @vifit.sport as part of the #MissionMarathon#SpeedDemons squad! •
Have a read - I promise it’s less daunting than you think! Happy Wednesday 💋
