Ali was sexually trafficked at the age of 22, in #Philadelphia, #USA. Addiction led Ali to prostitution and ultimately, to being trafficked. She was on the streets for five years. “In the beginning it’s easy for them to manipulate you when you have nothing, and they're literally providing you with everything. They have that control over you. It kind of became me giving into them because I felt obligated to do certain things with them in order for them to keep providing for me. If they would be physically abusive towards you then they would remind you that they're you're primary source of income and your primary place to have a roof over your head, to feed you. So even though that part of you was there, you were willing to sacrifice because without that person, I thought I had nothing.” Ali progressively kept getting deeper. “It’s like a war zone, that’s the only way to describe it. I normalized it so much, but most of what goes on there is drugs, prostitution, and violence. It’s crazy when I think about it now because it’s no way for a person to live… I had alienated myself from [my parents] for so long, lied to them, stole from them, had them searching for me for months, putting out missing persons reports for me. There had been warrants out for my arrest because I had failed to appear in court for months, I was running from the police… I remember I was walking down a one-way street and I see a truck and for a split second I thought about running. [An officer] got out of the car and handcuffed me and literally called my mom on the phone to say we found your daughter… I had that moment of clarity where I realized that I was going to be in trouble and most likely go to jail—but I also had that sense of relief that was a little scary because I knew that it was over… I don't think I would have made it off of the streets alive had I continued to stay out there… Whether its addiction or prostitution or human trafficking, it doesn’t discriminate against any socio-economic status or any background. Even me in the beginning, I thought I come from a good family, an educated family, a good area, this could never happen to me... But it can happen to anybody.”
4/7...The designers from @apparatusstudio have created some gorgeous pieces which hang in some noteworthy spaces. Spring restaurant at Somerset House, London is recognised for its fresh, feminine, contemporary design as much as it is for its culinary excellence. The incredibly talented @brionyfitzgeralddesign used Apparatus’s, “Cloud 50” chandeliers and their, “Lariat” wall sconces along with delicate art installations and iconic furniture. You would imagine all the precise, layers of detail in the restaurant would overwhelm but, skilfully, the space is serene, harmonious and uplifting. This wall sconce is “Dyad”, available in solid brass or with hand cast porcelain cones that emit a delicate glow. No need for art. This lighting is art. #editedbyalexandra#sundayseries

3/7... Sculptural jewellery? Here you have it. Those cuffs! Love. “Parts of Four” is Evan Sugerman, a designer from Los Angeles who now has a gallery/boutique in Paris. Founded in 2011, Parts of Four produces jewellery, objects, furnitures, and installations. With a background in sculptural processes, Parts of Four is described as, “a meditation on form, material, and processes.” #editedbyalexandra#mypick#itsallinthedetails#womeninstyle#sundayseries

2/7...Let’s begin with a sculpture. I saw this exhibition by @lukestorrier at the @olsen_gallery last year. “Remnants,” combines natural materials with concrete, wire and steel, creating an equilibrium between life and lifeless. Storrier said, “The abstract process of wrapping, binding and wrangling a collection of detritus reveals the beauty inherent in the act of repair....” Here is, “Remnant 9” (concrete, wire, calico, gesso) and, “Remnant 3” (concrete, calico, twine). Although they look weighty and solid with concrete, and perhaps you imagine they’re large in scale, they are actually delicate and small and precious. #editedbyalexandra#mypick#itsallinthedetails#sundayseries

1/7...It was difficult to decide what to label this series. It features my usual fetishes - art, jewellery, interiors, lighting and furniture. They each have a definite look and appeal and that appeal is consistent throughout. It’s the sculptural element. Perhaps it’s because I’m a designer?? I just love these creations - they are teetering on the edge of brilliant and ordinary, beautiful and ugly. But they are exact, perfect and simply captivating. See what you think. #editedbyalexandra#mypick#sundayseries

A few weeks ago I ordered these home-baked soft cookies and they are amazing! They all come individually wrapped. The chocolate brownie one is by far my favourite. Definitely recommended!

#SundaySeries today is made with another special kind of LOVE... 😍😍
You see, since my husband and I started dating yeaaaaaars ago since my Uni days we've never celebrated Valentine because, he's an unromantic Urhobo man and then I don't believe in it because I'm strongly for loving every single day and not just one day out of the 365 days we've been blessed with.
But this year, with all the frenzy on this here InstaVille, I have changed my mind and what better to gift him than this fluffy Eba and Better Crunchy Okro Soup with some Fish head to cap it all 😍😍😍😍
This was paired nicely with our #BloodyMelon to get his blood pressure in check, his heart and other vital organs functioning super so he keeps filling the wallet and ATM card as God commanded him to always!
So you see, my Valentine has started! Yaaayyy 😁😁😄😄
I ate this lunch and dozed off immediately until @jojoshomemade came visiting with a big bunch of Ondo bananas and pineapple for us. This week's smoothies are gon be lit! 💃💃💃
Thanks boo, sorry this finished before you came 😄🤣😂
Oya o, verdict.... I'm I a good #ValsDay Gifter or not? .
the mission, if you choose to accept it, is to try something new every sunday.

Phalla was sexually trafficked at the age of 20, in #Cambodia. She was sold to a brothel by her grandmother. “When I was 20, my father died and we had nobody to provide for our family, so I had to stop my schooling and move in with my grandmother… One day she asked me if I wanted to visit Kampong Som by the sea... She brought me into the village to a nice house, which she said belonged to a friend. On the fourth day, my grandma introduced me to the house owner and [told her I needed to stay for] several days... She left and the house owner said she wouldn’t be coming back because she had sold me. She told me I must make money but I couldn’t leave the house... She forced me into the room and locked the door… That night, I heard someone turn the lock… He said he was my uncle... I was afraid… When he touched me, I immediately pushed him away. He pushed me onto the bed and punched me. My mouth began bleeding and I called for help, but no one answered. He put his arm on my mouth to muffle my screams and then ripped off my clothes and raped me. He said, ‘You are mine for several days. So, I can do whatever I want to you because I gave a lot of money to your boss.’ Then he left the room… After three months, I was sold to a new brothel owner and the ‘guests’ forced me to have sex copying styles they saw in sex videos… I had 10-15 guests a day. I felt like an animal in the zoo. I couldn’t go anywhere, I never got the money—they gave me drugs, curses and beatings instead. I quickly became a drug user because it helped ease my distress. I had very low self-esteem, harmed myself and was quick to anger. I felt hopeless because I didn’t think anything of my life. I was a slave prostitute. A few months later, I was sold to a brothel in #Thailand where they forced me to have sex with 20-30 men. I worked in this brothel for four months when I met a Khmer man who helped me escape back to Cambodia… He took me to work in a karaoke bar… I ran away but they arrested me and sent me back. I was put in a room underground and beaten by the boss for a few days… After another month back at the karaoke bar, the boss trusted me enough to allow me to go out unsupervised.“
• Catching your attention with a harmonious Cali sunset, here, but really I want to tell you that tickets are now on sale for round 2 of our #sundayseries@paperdressyoga. • Check out the link in my bio for what will be a glorious afternoon of opening traditional Hatha followed by deeply nourishing restorative. Learn, too, how we can use the breath to alter mood and mind, and how to build short, replicable yoga practices into your daily life so as to effect positive change, and more calm and balance. • February 25th 12-3pm. Looking forward to seeing you there! 😍
• How do we create long lasting change in our lives? By changing one small thing, one day at a time. Building on the first workshop of the year, where we learned how to cultivate self-compassion, this #sundayseries workshop (Feb 25th, 12-3pm) will teach practices that create sustainable, healthy habits to fortify the soul and inspire our daily lives. We'll use practical tools to help initiate manageable changes in your lifestyle habits and draw on intentions (called sankalpa in the yoga tradition) to help initiate positive change. 🌟 •
• We'll open with an energising Hatha sequence designed to energise the body and clear the mind before looking at the physiology of breath and its effects on the mind-body relationship. 🌬 •
• The second half of the workshop will take us into a deeply nourishing restorative practice; to provide space for the deep tissue of our bodies to relax; to soothe the mind and reset the entire nervous system. Our sequence will work to open the meridians of the body that most need attention in the winter months when the body is colder and more sluggish. A beautiful way to nourish the body at the cellular level and to release conscious or unconscious tension and stress held in the body's tissue, restorative and yin-style practices are particularly powerful for anyone suffering stress, anxiety, fatigue, depression, or the daily wear and tear of London life. ♻️ •
• Throughout the workshop I’ll provide replicable 10-minute practices that can be built into your morning routine or end-of-day care. •
• Click the link in my bio for tickets 🔝

Kolab was trafficked at the age of 13, in #PhnomPenh, #Cambodia. ”When I turned 7, I learned that ‘my parents’ were actually foster parents. They told me that my biological parents had sold me shortly after I was born for the equivalent of $1000, since they could not afford to raise me. When I turned 13, my foster parents sent me to Phnom Penh… Two men said that if I didn’t have any relatives, I could stay with them… Since they were older, I assumed they were safe to live with so I agreed. When we arrived to their home, I saw 15 girls who were strung out on drugs. I felt afraid but was told me everything would be alright. I was introduced to a man called Tiger II. After a week, Tiger II ordered me to have sex with a man on video but I refused… He ordered someone to inject me with drugs. I could no longer refuse because I had no control. I had to do what they wanted which was to be filmed having sex with [other men]... This torture continued for 20 days and they subdued me with drugs… Tiger II ordered me to sell drugs, sell my body... [and] steal, pickpocket, and cheat my customers by taking their money and motorbikes. If I didn’t make [enought money], they punished me by stripping and beating me with a stick until I fainted, electrocuting me, cutting me and pouring salt water on the cuts, and placing my hands into a bamboo press for up to 20 minutes. To numb the pain, I began taking more drugs… which made me feel invincible and unafraid. They forced me to sleep with as many as 50 customers a day. I had to give Tiger II all my money, but I secretly hid $5 from each customer. I worked for Tiger II for almost 2 years. Eventually I gained their trust, and they watched me less carefully. One night, I took the money I had saved and stole an additional $500 from the boss in order to run away with a friend… I tried to find work in a factory, but nobody would hire me so I started working at a massage parlor. One day, the police arrived and closed down the parlor. I was very scared that I would be arrested, but they told me they wanted to help me.”

Bu pazar muhteşem bir diziye başlayabilirsiniz... How I Met Your Mother 👏 karakterleri harika, ilişkileri detaylı ve arkadaşlığı değerli anlatan bir dizi... bir adamın çocuklarına anneleri ile nasıl tanıştıklarını anlattığı ama neredeyse dizideki her karakteri başrol gibi izleyeceğiniz bir dizi... benim favorim Barney... romantik komedi tadında, biraz üzen genelde güldüren harika bişey ❤

Happy Sunday Evening! Today I was contemplating where my artwork is really heading- tossing around ideas and trying to get inspired (lately both have been a battle). As I sat down to begin what I hoped would be a miraculous painting session I was hit by a spiritual freight train. I have been trying so hard to create for others, myself included, I've forgotten who has given me the gift of creation in the first place. Wow. Poignant stuff, as juvenile as it may seem- it really hit me today. So as I sat at my desk, I asked the Lord to share with me in my creation for today, and you know what, he totally did. Before I knew it I was drawing up a few very simple, but impactful words that I've really needed to align me heart to lately. I was blessed by His presence in these and wanted to share them with you. So...after all of that, I wanted to announce that I will be working up a few of these original pieces once a week as a "Sunday Series". I hope they bring you encouragement for the future. In my life, I just want more of Him and less of Me 🙌🏼 // shop link in profile #thedancingpine#sundayseries#originals
