On my way out to Oma's, I took a detour to South Shore to snap a few pics. South Shore was once a very prosperous and affluent neighborhood, and the buildings there prove it. This neighborhood also has history within my family. My Grandfather grew up on 65th St. across from Jackson Park, and this is the neighborhood that my mom grew up in. I grew up hearing many stories of neighborhood. The pics are: 1) The statue of the Republic in Jackson Park. This is a recreation of the same statue that stood at the 1893 Columbian Exposition, 2) a house on 70th in the Highlands, 3) one of the apartments my mom lived in at 6824 S. East End., 4) St. Philip Neri at 72nd and Merrill. This was once a very large Irish Catholic parish, 5) the entrance to the South Shore Cultural Center (was the South Shore Country Club until the early 70s), 6) the South Shore library on 73rd St., 7-10) various shots around the old country club. I love how the door handles were made with SSCC on them.
