A and R for achievable and realistic respectively. I like to group these two together as they are very similar and somewhat feed each other. First achievable, this States that your goal should be a point you could reach and that can be worked towards. So your goals should not be dependent on any luck or chance. Realistic falls in line with that in so much as a point that can be achieved based on the point you are in your life with your realistic demands. For example if you are 35 and have never done gymnastics in your life the goal of making the Olympic gymnastics team may not be the best choice, as this requires some luck and your body is beyond the normal limits in which one can develop top tier gymnastics. I am not trying to take down anyone’s dreams but setting closer goals to stair step your way to ultimate success will maintain motivation and a feeling of success rather than immediately shooting for the moon.
