This painting took quite a while to undertake and lots of layers until I was happy with the overall effect (especially of the buildings). I am most happy with the colour pallette - I really wanted to capture the warmth of the beautiful old sandstone buildings. This scene of Salamanca is painted looking South towards the water from memory and from old family photos. We loved driving down to Hobart and going to the market as kids ☺ (another reason for those warm, nostalgic tones) see link in bio for more detailed shots ☺
Since our stockist @DuncanMeerding lost all but 5% of his vision, an alter-sensory world has guided his now iconic Tasmanian lighting design. Next month, he will be joining Tasmanian adventurer Paul Pritchard @pritch5 on a 6 week tandem trike journey from Lake Eyre to Mt Kosciuszko, to challenge the misconceptions around what people with disabilities can do. "Duncan's got two good legs — I've got one and a half good legs — and I'm counting on him to be the engine, and I'll be the eyes." said Paul recently. We are forever inspired by the ways our makers create and the stories they share through their work. We will look forward to following Duncan, Paul and the rest of the team on their journey.
