Lately all I can think about is warm weather and fishing open water. We have the luxury of being able to hit the river and fish yr round if you can handle some cold temps.
Flipping a jig early in the season, especially spawning season can produce some big girls. 🎣🎣🐟🐟💪🏻@line_cutterz#bucketmouth#bassfishing#footballjigs#riverrats .

Our longest and farthest kayaking journey yet. For several hours we explore down a tidal creek across the river from our house. There are jumping fish and swarms of gnats. She wants to pick up plastic bottles, so we do. We meet a neighbor out fishing who is a retired firefighter. He has 23 pet goats. He just likes to watch them. "They are beautiful", he says. He tells us tales about when he was a boy and lived a few streets over and would ride his bike to fish off the bridge, which is looming over us as he speaks. He says back then his current house was a hog farm, with huge black hogs. He would watch the hogs as he fished from the bridge. "I remember it so well", he remarks as he reminisces. He tells us about his seven grandkids, his daughter who has survived breast cancer, and his son who died at 17. He tells Cali about catching bullhead minnows in an eel trap, how to use half a crab as the best bait, and that the mouth of the creek is the best spot for catching reds. As we sit there talking the tide recedes so much we find ourselves stuck in the mud. "Push straight back towards the rocks. That's the deepest water", he instructs as he uses a giant pvc pipe that had been laying on his dock to try to give us a push. We wave goodbye to Buddy and as we are heading back down the last leg of the creek towards the river, Cali exclaims, "this is the perfect day."
