The beauty of compostable is in how many times it can be re-used and repurposed. Planet cups make the perfect vessel for growing plants from seed- we've got watermelon seeds in ours almost ready to plant out into the garden. What's your favourite way to get another use out of our cups?
After a couple of swims in a lake and creek today Sully our new fluffy furfriend was needing a wash. We were able to test out the plastic free pet shampoo soap bar in the recently salvaged (and free!) bath tub. The bar of soap came from @biomestores completely plastic free with a paper wrap label in a paper bag. The tub which I plan on building a bit of a platform for from salvaged pallets and connecting a hose to drain the water to parts of the garden. Sully hadn’t taken to washing just with a hose but was a bit more comfortable with the tub situation. On hot days we could also fill the tub as a mini pool in the backyard to cool down under the trees! #zerowastepets#zerowastepetproducts#biomestores#plasticfree#plasticfreedogs#sustainablepets#upcycling#salvagedgoods
Mein neuer Favorit!😊
There's no denying the fact that with awareness and empowerment, women can be the 'agents of change' in a household and society. A woman truly has the power to shape minds and personalities. In an effort to bring awareness about the #BanPlasticBags campaign and bring the most needed change, these lovely ladies chose Winskills cloth bags with environmental messages over the regular gifting items for the HaldiKumkum for Makarsankranti! How cool is that!! Hats off to all the women who are taking steps to bring change and make our city #PlasticFree!

Have a great weekend! And maybe #upcycle something (with your children)?! These vases are just old paper rolls, painted white. 🎨
Habt ein schönes Wochenende! Und bastelt doch was (mit den Kids)?! Diese Vasen bestehen einfach nur aus alten, weiß angemalten Papierrollen. #reuse#becreative
Do you think education about the environment/ climate change should be taught at a younger age? I just finished Year 8 last year and that was about the first time the teacher taught us about climate change😅
When this albatross died it had 558 individual pieces of plastic stuffed into its stomach 📸Eric Dale / FWS Volunteer
When albatrosses return to the Midway Atoll, an island 3200 miles from San Francisco and 1200 miles northwest of the main Hawaiian Islands, for their nesting season in November, there's about one bird per square foot, that's more than 1.5 million birds.
Plastic is so ubiquitous on Midway that every single albatross on the island will likely die with a stomach full of it. When birds die and decompose, the plastic in their guts remains. According to Bret Wolfe, deputy manager at the Midway Atoll National Wildlife Refuge; "Anywhere you see a big pile of plastic but nothing else, that's where an albatross died"
Much of the plastic is brought back to the island by the albatrosses. Their favourite food, squid, can easily be mistaken for plastic. The birds, renowned for their long distance flying abilities, snap up the squid-like plastic from waters near Alaska and carry it a thousand miles or.more back to Midway. There, the birds either regurgitate it for their young or else ultimately die of natural causes with the garbage still in their stomachs.
This feeding behaviour brings over 10 thousand pounds (4535 kg) of plastic to Midway every year, says Ann-Marie Cook, a marine debris expert with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and that's before factoring in the debris that washes ashore.
Sometimes I like to bury my head in the sand (bush?) to life’s troubles. But one I just can’t ignore is the amount of plastic we are creating every day. The head scarf I am wearing is from @lush_ausnz and not only do I love it because it is gorgeous, it is made of 2x recycles plastic water bottles! Creating something beautiful out of the ugly and giving a useless product a purpose is amazing.

All this wet has us missing the sunshine! 🌞 We spent our last team day climbing at Lighthouse Park in the gorgeous sunshine, and we’re looking for some fun activities/ideas for our next one at the end of the month. Any ideas?
Picked flowers today but not a good kind. The local cemetery seems to encourage plastic 🌺 which blow out into Manukau Harbour. There's got to be another way?

Last year in September I had an idea while at my mundane job and for once I actually followed through on the idea.
I thought about what people I know and myself struggled with when getting used to using reusable bags (or anything reusable really) and that's remembering it. Sometimes it's just as simple as remembering that they are in the back of your car. So I messaged my wonderful local supermarket the attached message and they replied saying they'll discuss suitable places to put them.
Well today, when I had pretty much forgotten that I had messaged them, my mum sent me this picture of the signs they have put up! How cool is that! It's only something small but I hope it works to help people transition to a reusable bag lifestyle. ♻️ It inspires me to actually complete more of my ideas. One of which, is this account 💥

Over 2,000 followers and here I thought I was just full of beeswax. HAHAHA, I totally am but here are 2 things the zerowaste life has brought me:
Discipline. Weird, right? It is a constant battle between choosing the package free choice or not. I might struggle with never buying a bag of chips but the difference between 10 minutes of chip bingeing or a hundred years in the landfill usually sobers me right up.
Fuels my curiosity. I am a curious creature by nature and when my curiosity wanes so does my creative mojo. I am always asking questions about packaging, etc. This tumbles me down the rabbit hole of how could this work without said thing? This in turns churns my creativity and gets my brain thinking. Also, I am glad I am married to a research librarian because he can usually get me answers in half the amount of time. If you have a favorite beeswax recipe let me know! I have never really worked much with beeswax so looking for some insider secrets. 🧐 I have used a bit since this photo but was not overly impressed with my outcomes.

I had some left over meat-free bolognese & I wasn't sure what to do with it so I used it in soft tacos 🌮 I made some quick flour tortillas with just flour, water, salt & olive oil. They were delish so I think I'll have to make them more often 🤗✨🙌🏼🌱
Produce haul for the week which challenged me to fill myself with plenty of veggies the week before the wedding!
Spring mix, broccoli, green cauliflower, butternut squash, mushroom, onion, and cabbage was just a snapshot of what I ate this week. I have to say that buying fresh, colorful produce like this and living zero waste makes me want to eat better, and eat more (so the food doesn’t spoil and go to waste before I know it, haha!) 😉
