"Canada's transcontinental railroad was built fast across the prairies, reaching Calgary in August 1883. The next step for the railroad line was to cross the Rocky Mountains. Aside from the new challenges ahead, a new world was opened up to the workers. Seeking adventure in the wilderness surroundings, many of them prospected and hunted during their spare time. That is why, on a cool November day in 1883, three workers stumbled on a basin pool, fed by a hot spring. One of them built a rude cabin, which he occasionally visited during the following winter.
