American White Pelicans and a single Great Egret, catch last light in Southeastern Oregon.
The birds of Caye Caulker have nearly as much personality as the people. Large pelicans and frigates are everywhere and many of the pelicans have names. With the tours and fish cleaning stations around the island, they have become pretty accustomed to the routines of people and scoring a free meal. Some pelicans can be pet and others hitch rides on boats. One even gave me a love bite on the hand when I fed him. That was a first for me! But to be fair, those beaks are long and I imagine hard to control. .
What’s the old saying... sometimes it’s better to be lucky than good. 💯This morning while shooting this frame, out of no where an incredible pelican bursts into the shot. 🌊In photography you just never know what your going to get! 😄 #SurfCityUSA (📸: @larsoncraig)
Catching a really crisp shot of these guys can be very challenging. I’ll never get tired of trying though. Pelicans are some of my favorite animals. Reaching speeds well over 40mph surfing pockets of air up and down the coast which by the way doesn’t appear to be part of any feeding pattern but simply out of pure stoke. This guy here shot me a wink😉and a Shaka 🤙🏼as he silently blazed by... #SurfCityUSA (📸: @larsoncraig)
