Three Red Ranunculus Cradled in Blue 📷 "But what is influence? It is, for example, the artist’s selection of the environment in which he wants to work, the people, of collaborators with whom he wants to work, and with whom he will feel comfortable with." These words from Andrei Tarkovsky struck a chord in me the moment I read them long ago. I always felt that those we admire in art, whether they work in our creative fields or not, are deep down reflections of our creative selves. Paul Cézanne is one of those artists I find to be "pleasant company." When I studied in Aix-en-Provence, I lived less than a minute away rom his atelier and his famous view of Mont Saint-Victoire. More importantly, I concur with much of his insights, such as "An art which isn't based on feeling isn't an art at all... feeling is the principle, the beginning and the end; craft, objective, technique--all these are in the middle."
