If you don’t know @echo_photo you probably should! Jessi is the magic behind this shot and the most fun, genuine, adventure seeking photographer I know. How perfectly did she capture this winter sky we slept under this weekend?! We are so lucky to have photos like this to look back at these memories. 😍
I believe in adventure. I believe that in order to ask my clients to walk out on a cliff or take off their shoes and run around barefoot, I would willingly do the same. I believe in earth's dirt on the skin and wind in my hair. And I believe that when we listen to our gut, adventuring into the unknown is woven into our souls. Once we rid ourselves of the cities and the noises and the phones and the material items, what is left? Us. The Earth. All of its creatures. And our deep desire to try and understand what is around us, how we got here, why we are here, and where we are going. And it's no surprise that we want to figure all of this out with someone by our side. Adventure and love, go hand in hand, literally. It's THEE human experience.
My name is Megan and I am the photographer behind these images. I live way up high in the Cascade mountains of Washington with my best friend, partner, love of my life, rad man-skilled human, John. We embarked on a new adventure of cabin life, mountain living, and caring for land nearly two years ago. I have only seen a small glimpse of the world we live in but am proud of the adventures I have been on, many of which were done solo. I'v been known to run through the jungle barefoot, hitchhike my way to a destination, take off my top to be wild-n-free, and wake up at the crack of dawn to catch the best light of the day. I'm not afraid to get dirty and work hard whether it's for my own home or for my clients. I believe we all have a story to tell and I love being the one to tell yours. It's no surprise by now that I thrive outside and am grateful to get to work with adventurous couples who love the wild elements just as much as I do. If you're reading this and thinking, gosh dang I can relate to her, chances are you can and I'd love to hear from you. Don't be shy, just say hi! HA. That rhymed by accident. 😂But really, I'd love to connect with you and hear your stories of adventure and love. You can DM me here and I'll get back in touch as soon as I can or just comment below!

Echo and I went snow-camping this past weekend with our mountain crew, and waking up to a view like this is one I won’t soon forget!
@missroselouise and @anastasia.allison are going to film a Q&A for our Musical Mountaineers channel on YouTube!! We want to answer YOUR questions!! Post below and we’ll include them!! And yes, they can be funny ❤️🎹🎻
Raise your hand if you've ever been on a shoot and suddenly just kinda lost your groove, 🙋🏼🙋🏼🙋🏼
I'll be the first to admit it AND chances are, damn near every photographer or creative has once found themselves with a blank slate, not sure what to do next.
That happened to me right here 🙈 Not every suggestion we give will work for every couple. Why? Because every couple and their dynamic is different!
I had these two seated in a way that just wasn't working. I could tell they weren't feeling it and I could see they just weren't comfortable. At all!
So what do we do in these moments? I can tell you what I do. First, I BREATHE. It's going to be OKAY I promise. 🙌🏼 And then 9/10 I say something like, "Ok scratch that. How do you guys sit on the couch with each other? Like, when you're at home and it's the end of the day, where do you naturally find yourselves?"
And then, they did this! They stood up, repositioned themselves, TJ leaned back and put his head in Heather's lap and let out the biggest sigh. To me that sigh meant, "Yup. I feel so good right here." And I think he even said that too!
And then, we moved on! With Heather and TJ feeling more comfy, I was able to capture them in a way that shows their true dynamic and not some way I think they might like to sit next to each other. WIN-WIN 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
So! The next time you find yourself stuck, don't worry, it'll pass I promise. Take a step back, breathe, and ask your clients what feels good to them. 💙
Chances are they'll take you straight to something that is more authentic than you could ever create and from there, you can actually tell their story in a way that feels real to them!
YAY for telling real stories of real people in real moments that really happen in their real lives. For realz! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Yesterday was incredible. Less than a year ago, I wrote ‘ME NOW’ on the bottom of a whiteboard... and ‘ME inspiring millions’ on the top of the whiteboard.
I didn’t have ANY CLUE how to do it. Literally, no clue. I remember that people used to ask me, ‘What’s your business plan?’... and my throat would tighten. I didn’t know how to say, ‘Just follow my heart and do good things’, without feeling like I was irresponsible.
One of the things I wrote on that whiteboard was, ‘be in Backpacker magazine.’ At the time, I didn’t even know anybody at Backpacker... but low and behold, my good friend Cassie told me about a Seattle Trail Scout opportunity, which I applied for. I started an online hiking group simultaneously. The scout position with Backpacker morphed into gear testing (yaaaayyyyy!). I met hikers that I wouldn’t have otherwise met, because they saw me in Backpacker. One of those hikers, requested a violin gram for her student... which morphed into me giving away a violin for Christmas to a boy in need... which somehow turned into me having my photographs taken yesterday for Backpacker wearing a gown and trail runners in front of a waterfall with @stephen_matera , a ridiculously talented artist of the lens 📷
Two years ago, I wasn’t grateful for much. I was miserable and stuck. It was a split second of almost losing my life, which made me grateful for the one thing that is the foundation of everything: my beating heart. You have to start there, or nothing else matters. ❤️❤️ after that, anything is possible.
I wrote a poem yesterday:
My heart beats itself
Each steady thump
Like the sound of a mason
Laying bricks of gold
The foundation of everything
The path to who I am
The bellows of my lungs
Into the golden fire
Each whoosh of air
Over and over
And over again
So many times that I sometimes forget
That each beat
Is the gift of everything. 📷 @theres.no.aaron.space
