Since it was raining the next day, we decided to cram everything into one day which went like this: woke up at 3am to pack since I was too lazy to do so the night before, called to wake up my friend who set alarm for wrong time, drove an hr to consolidate cars, 4 more hours to Lake George, futzed around at marina for reservations and loading gear, paddled out for an hour to our island campsite, sorted gear then paddles to other side of lake for climbing approach, hiked up the approach, climbed 3-4 routes, hiked back down, kayaked in the twilight, set up camp, built fire, cooked, ate/drank, slept. It was a good day. #kayak#kayaking#rockclimbing#climbing#sportclimbing#shelvingrock#nightpaddling#canoe#canoeing#lakegeorge
We LOVE night kayaking...some people look at me like I am nuts when I say we take our kids night kayaking, but we are careful. We stay close to the shore, EVERYONE wears a lifejacket, we check the weather and evaluate how choppy the water is, we do not not kayak where there are likely to be power boats, we each carry a whistle and a signal light.
It is surreal though, to slip out into the water, and be surrounded by darkness and water lapping at the side of the boat. We have a favorite place we go in the Adirondacks. A little island managed by the DEC...we make a fire on the island, grill hot dogs on skewers and then paddle back to the mainland. So peaceful. Have you ever tried it???? #quiettime#reflection#nightpaddling
