Looks as if Jace is starting to tick back down. After seeing more examples of Jace play, I don’t think he’s as busted as most people think. He’s just like any other bomb. I played against one last night and was able to keep it off the board (I was also 4 cards and 1 misplay away from decking my opponent). The hype is slowly wearing off and I think the card will take more dips as A25 approaches. Stay tuned as we keep track of this card going further.
3. Melissa Benson
Melissa Benson was an early favourite of mine. Her vibrant colours and iconic creatures were never as cool in later sets when they were reprinted with new art.
1 >> Shivan Dragon: the iconic card that I dreamed of pulling from a pack of 4th Edition in 1995.
2 >> Doesn't Phantasmal Mount look like the child of Nightmare and Lord of Atlantis?
3 >> Her many fantastical creatures.
#30daymagicchallenge day 15, you favorite Shard/Wedge. Mine is Sultai hands down. It's the combination of my two favorite guilds (Dimir and Simic). A close second would likely be Grixis, but I like Green more than Red. #magicthegathering#mtg
Full disclosure: Demonic Consultation is my favorite tutor of all time. One mana, instant speed, tutor anything in your deck. Basically the only drawback is that you have to be playing 3-4 of the card you're tutoring for, but if it's that good you're probably playing four anyway.
Davis's Necro deck was not totally designed by him but by his team, which if I'm not mistaken included Craig Wescoe. But one of the main criticisms of his build was that playing fewer than four Consultations was almost unconscionable. The reason is that it's very difficult for this deck to win without drawing either a Necropotence or a Demonic Consultation to find it. The deck is just pretty embarrassing without a Necro on the table because you're just sitting there discarding cards to Unmasks and Contagions and not doing much.
The counter-argument was that in most games you really only want to Consult once for Necro so you don't need that many, but I think that's not even necessarily true.
Whatever the case may be, Demonic Consultation is just an awesome card. Its "risky" nature is right on flavor for black, but most people back in the day overestimated the risk when they first saw the card. "But won't I just flip over my whole deck and lose?" Yes, that will happen about 0.1% of the time, and the rest of the time you will win the game because you just cast an instant-speed Demonic Tutor for one mana! You can just tutor for a freaking basic Swamp if you have a land-light draw. This card is so good! Play four!! Ok, I'm calm...
