A few weeks ago, I was chosen as one of the @mountaineersorg Top 10 Inspirational Mountaineers of Instagram for 2018. First of all, I’m beyond flattered and honored to be recognized by an organization I love and respect. Second, I think someone may have lost their mind because I basically just hike and take pictures of everything that I find beautiful (which is honestly just about everything in this breathtaking state), and started sharing them at the encouragement of a few people very close to me, since the pictures were just taking up space on my hard drive.
For years I’ve been pretty quiet about having rheumatoid arthritis, and only recently have I become more comfortable with talking about it openly and sharing my experiences. In doing so I’ve been connected with so many incredible people and had the opportunity to share and learn more about autoimmune and inflammatory disorders. There are so many people in the outdoor community who suffer from (and thrive with) disorders like mine, and this has served as a reminder to embrace it and maybe draw more public attention to matters that don’t always get much.
Thanks again to an organization I’m so proud to be a member of. And to check out some truly incredible humans (several of whom I’m happy to call friends), see the link to full article here:
