But there are maps
and then again, there are maps;
for what to call the haphazard
dance of bees returning
to their hives but maps
that lead to precise
hibiscuses, their soft
storehouses of pollen?
And what to call the blood
of hummingbirds but maps
that pulse the tiny bodies across
oceans and then back?
And what are turtles born with
if not maps that break
eggs and pull them up from sand
guide them towards ocean instead of land?

P.s. Фото сделано через любимый CCC (canon camera connect) иначе сама себя не могу сфоткать
BELGIUM, Brussels. 6/12/2017: St Nicolas, patron of the children traditionally celebrated on December 6th, visits migrants and refugees waiting for the volunteers from "Plateforme Citoyenne de Soutien aux Réfugiés" to designate them a Belgian citizen who will host them for a few days. Every night about 300 migrants and refugees are hosted this way.
When the “Calais Jungle” was dismantled a little more than one year ago, many migrants headed for Brussels to seek an alternative opportunity of crossing the Channel or seek refugee status in Belgium. They hang around the North Station, mingling with refugees or refugee candidates to exchange information. Refugees wait for their status to be legalised, migrants wait before trying to board a truck heading for Great Britain, paying as much as 800€ to traffickers. As the Belgian authorities are reluctant to set up a proper infrastructure to host them, several networks of Belgian volunteers spontaneously took shape, among them “Plateforme Citoyenne de Soutien aux Réfugiés”, “Belgium Kitchen”, “United Stages” or informal groups of people, sometimes coming all the way from Liège or Mons. Through Facebook and a database of nearly 25000 addresses of Belgian citizens they provide the migrants and the refugees with food, clothing and information, and, in response to police raids rounding some of them up to send them back or elsewhere, organise and coordinate transportation to bring them to families or theatres hosting them for a few nights. Each night some 300 migrants and refugees are legally hosted. If it is indeed illegal for Belgian citizens to host people who are entered illegally in the country, it is also perfectly legal to host them for humanitarian reasons.

“The Way of the Knight: They who love courage and honor best, let them study diligently to become knights. For knighthood is the best, the bravest, and the most valiant calling, requiring not only masterful horsemanship and the ability to fight with lance, sword, and mace, but also love of chivalry and nobility as a protector of the poor and defender of the weak. It is no easy task, yet be of good cheer, for in this book the would-be squire will find all he needs to guide him.” .
The Nine Rules of Knighthood: .
✨Be courageous in battle and in life; do not avoid the difficult or dangerous, but face it and deal with it. .
✨Be just to all, especially those who owe you service and who look to you as an example.
✨Be generous, not only to other knights, and despise the hoarding of money for its own sake.
✨Help the helpless, and free them from evildoers.
✨Be true to your word once given, and always speak the truth as you see it.
✨Obey your lord and king in everything.
✨Respect and honor women always
✨Never refuse a challenge, nor turn your back on a foe unless ordered to do so.
✨Always guard the honor of fellow knights and keep the faith. .
I kind of feel like many of these rules should just be kept by everyone. haha. .
If you’ve been around these parts for awhile, you’ll have seen Dragonology, Wizardology, and Pirateology on my feed plenty of times. These “ology” books are some of my favorite additions to my Wizard’s library, and I was thrilled to receive a review copy of Knightology from @candlewickpress. I already knew I would love it, since I’ve loved the books for years. Along with maps, illustrations, some of the information included is about squire training, arms and armor, a knight’s horse and castle, jousts and tournaments, and hero knights from history and legends. .
I like these books because of all the fold and pull out papers, maps, letters etc. It’s just fun to open up these books and have so much to discover. .
What kind of things do you like learning about?
The individual pieces that make up a globe are called “globe gores” (a term that’s impossible to say w/o sounding like you’re choking on something!). This one, from the late 17th-century, was the work of Vincenzo Coronelli, an Italian cartographer whose commissions from Louis XIV supported the king’s imperial ambitions. Of note here is Coronelli’s replication of an error made by La Salle: locating the mouth of the Mississippi River about 400 miles west of where it actually is.
