Post #vacation depression still lingering... Single digit temperatures are not ideal. Wish I was still #fishing the #mangroves in the keys. Hurricane season turned some of these spots upside down. Ripped the color green right off the map.
Countdown to #Vegas begins now... Any suggestions?

From Tikal we veered off the Gringo Trail to Rio Dulce. The only way to get to our accommodation was to be picked up by a speed boat and taken through the winding mangroves. The 'hotel' was on wooden stilts and very secluded. A free kayak to explore the area was a plus!
Close by we went to Agua Caliente. Basically a cold river ran below a hot waterfall powered by a thermal spring bubbling above. Our first hot shower in weeks!

The stunning mangroves of Goa.
Goa, known to many as the state with picturesque beaches, also has one of the most productive mangrove patches in south India. Goa is drained by many rivers like the Mandovi which gives rise to a variety of wildlife species including the vulnerable smooth coated otter and beautiful collared kingfisher (which evaded us this time!). .
Unfortunately, rapid and unregulated urban development in Goa threaten this highly specialised ecosystem. Adding to this is the Mandovi river dispute, which is currently back on the table again with Karnataka demanding water to feed its northern districts. With the assembly elections coming up in Karnataka, the diversion of water will win the vote of farmers in the districts while also causing irreplaceable ecological damage.
