In the early 90's, I was working with Whitney Houston. Did a lot of iconic stuff with her but, that's a story for another day. On the days when we weren't touring the world, I was living in NYC playing on records, writing and producing. Me and another writer/producer (who I'll keep nameless for now) were up at Uptown working on a new artist. Andre Harrell had heard some tracks we were working on and gave us a budget to develop the artist. While at uptown, I was able to see and hear all of the other artists being developed. One in particular just blew me away. That artist was Mary J Blige. And at first, it wasn't even really about her voice or talent. It was all about her vibe and raw energy. Young artists at that time weren't bringing it like she was. Mary was putting all her vulnerability out there for the world to see. She still is today. I love that about her! Happy belated birthday to the queen of hip hop soul MJB! @therealmaryjblige And CONGRATS on your star on the walk of fame. I've had the honor of working with Mary on many occasions.
