"The first fall of snow is not only an event, it is a magical event. You go to bed in one kind of a world and wake up in another quite different, and if this is not enchantment then where is it to be found?"

Its hard to believe that in just a couple months these places are going to be completely transformed yet again. Frozen tundra will give way to open water, spring flowers will bloom, and green grass will start to fill in around the lake edge. These days it seems like winter will never end, but take hope friends, spring is coming soon 🌸 ☀️ 🌳

Highway 2 peaks looking like the Himalayas this morning... can’t believe Washington is real sometimes
Before the name “Lake McDonald” graced this beautiful place it had a few other names. Perhaps “Lac du Peches” was the first. It was on Father DeSmet’s maps as early as 1846. To find out more about the history behind the names in Glacier order the one or both books titled “What They Called It” from my on-line store. Volume one features the stories about the names along Going-to-the-Sun Road and volume two features names on the east side of Glacier. Do you have a place in Glacier that you want to know the story behind the name? Ask me ... #whattheycalledit
This place looks like it’s straight out of a fairy tale.
