Im just too tired to be on a selfie today, so you get a Jet pic instead🐠
We suspect that this little rascal is a finbiter, but we havent caught him in action yet. Apparently its not all that uncommon for halfmoon bettas to bite their own tail when stressed/bored, and once they learn that behaviour it might not go away, even if the stressor goes away. He might even have been a finbiter when we bought him. Not that many people seem to know its a thing, and sadly breeders sometimes choose the biters because their fins are already "spolied" so they wont get spoiled during breeding, and it just leads to that behaviour getting more common😑
I had to search around for a while before finding any decent facts online.
From now on hes getting a small dose of aquarium salt in his aquarium as a fungus prevention. Ive also dimmed down the light slightly am getting even more hiding places for him so that he feels as secure as possible. Were hoping our little scalybaby will get all of his beautiful tail back to its former glory. And also, might I add, we are not gonna breed him, hes just gonna live out his life with us anyways. Sadly I had a thought that it would be fun to try sometime, but not when he acts like this. If/when we find that the reason is something else than finbiting, then maybe we can consider it, but its not very likely.
