A little late this evening but I am just home from teaching the beginners class this evening. We had a mini portrait session this evening and everybody seemed to have a good time!. This image was made yesterday evening. trish and I travelled to Doohoma Beach, I thought I had visited all the really good photographic sites in Mayo, but even after twenty years, it would seem I still have some to find!! I had chosen Doohoma while looking at a map and realising I had never been, I could see that Achill Island would be visible from the shore and where the sun would be setting. But it was only when I walked onto the beach that I discovered these amazing tree trunks! it seems the coastline has changed, and the bog actually meets the sea, these tree stumps are over 5,000 years old and are all that remain of an ancient forrest. fortunately the tide was rising and I had to stand in the cold and wait for the sea to reach the tree trunks, it seemed to be teasing me with only occasionally throwing a wave up the beach that would almost reach them. This image was made half an hour after sunset and I was beginning to think the tide would not reach before dark, then this one wave came racing up the beach, I got the picture and headed back to the car, my fingers were just too cold to wait for any more!

The ‘there is no path’ hikes are always the best 😍
