While my wife and little guy went to Maine to visit Papa and Mam, my parents and I tore into my house. The house had some water damage and the quote for fixing just 2 of the areas was $10,000. We knocked out those areas and several other projects for a couple hundred and some sweat. 1. My dad entering the containment area in Asher's room. 2. Before and after window in Asher's room. 3. Before, during, and after the huge dining room window (studs were completely rotted out so we rebuilt underneath it). 4. Before and after ceiling water damage repair in guest bedroom 5. Before, during and after ceiling repair in living room 6. Hole in wall from when I fell off a chair and put door handle through the wall. We knocked out a few other smaller projects as well. So thankful for the help of my parents! #joysofhomeownership#thankful#homeimprovement#drywall#DIY#moneysaving
This tired face is the face we all have right now. We're all S U P E R over this project. Seriously, at first.. it was awesome-we were excited & determined & so gitty to get started, but this last week has KILLED us. I don't even want to get crazy personal on here, but I do want to be honest. Adam and I have NEVER fought like we have this past week. It's like every little thing has made us both snap. We both have attitudes with each other and the kids are driving us INSANE. We had an extremely rough day today and I am questioning ((wtf are we doing getting in a 40 ft bus to travel the country in?!!!)) Like, can we really do this?! And how many people separate doing this?! I know the remodeling is probably the hardest part and it HAS to get better once it's done... but gahhhh it's been hard and really getting to us! On the bright side- we are fine now!! Like every marriage-It takes work and communication and we made it thru the day STILL MARRIED!😂So that's good! Also, the bathroom is COMPLETE & the kitchen faucet is replaced! If we can trade my car in for a jeep (unless there's another/better vehicle to tow??) in a day (tomorrow), then we will be on the road! Wish us luck!! .

Love the simplicity of this bathroom👍
What are your thoughts?
So i decided tonight that it wasn’t the best plan I ever came up with to paint the living room while putting up the tree during finals week and I have to go get my cat’s ashes cause “he’s ready” according to the vet and he always liked to supervise any projects. But, i am getting there...one wall left...bwahaha...now I have the entryway and my daughter’s old room and the wainscoting needs to be painted and I am thinking I should put wainscoting in the dining room and, seriously, what the hell is wrong with me.... #notcaturday#authorslife#homeimprovement#needachange#merrychristmas2017🎁🎅🎄
From lame to lux! The refrigerator switched walls to make more room on the opposite side. The upper cabinets were removed and replaced with open shelves. We added a wine fridge to create more counter space and expand the kitchen. Quartz counters with backsplash from floor to ceiling and black cabinet paint helped to complete this transformation!
Canadian winters get COLD and we mean COLD. That means heating bills go up. We strive to have our homes energy efficient by incorporating ICF foundations. The two layers of foam plus concrete in ICF walls give the building an R24-50 insulation value. Did you know this can reduce your heating costs up to 70% a year?!?

This time of year makes me nostalgic for all thing home. Family, friends from high school and college, and the lights on the Plaza in KC. So while working on an install late into the evening tonight, I found a cup my client had left out before leaving for work. I became especially weepy (not just of exhaustion from being crazy-good-fun busy these last few months) but for a need for maybe a little road trip one day soon. My subs didn’t really know what to think of me today. Sorry, guys- it wasn’t you. It was me.

Here’s a closer shot of my new cedar fence showing how we executed the grade change detail in an unusual way — using mitered corners so every board flows continuously down the entire length of the fence. It’s kind of a trippy optical illusion when you stand back and view it from the street. I also designed it with alternating board widths (5” + 3”) and a quarter inch gap. 📐
This time last year, we would have never guessed that we’d have an opportunity like this: getting to design and renovate and furnish a 3,000 sq ft coworking space for our clients out of what used to be a dated office building. Usually our projects entail trying squeeze as much functionality as we can into small, awkward spaces. This project was completely the opposite- we started with a blank slate. No walls to move, no barriers to work around, no limits. From the glassed-in conference room to the wavy ombré accent walls to the stenciled floor pattern... we did it all. It was super challenging and we put more hours into it than we can count, but we have to say that it’s one of our favorite projects to date. We’re looking forward to getting after photos taken & sharing all of the details on the blog, but first... a much needed mini-getaway is in order 🌞 @mixdesigncollective#projectthewave

... because every home should have a room like this one | by All About Home Design builders |
I have a hearing tomorrow with the county tax assessor to request a deduction in property tax value. I need to be able to show proof that my home could not sell for the assessed market value so I'm taking a bunch of photos. I'm sure this is going to be an absolutely fascinating hearing. I have no clue what they'll think but in truth these photos do prove it: any realtor would have a heart attack over what I've done with this place. #interiordecor#homeimprovement#happyhome#propertytax#echopark
