What a beautiful groyne! What is a groyne you say? Here at Sandringham, there is an issue with ocean currents eroding the sand from the beach. To solve that, multiple concrete and rock groynes have been installed in an attempt to capture the drifting sand, which tends to travel parallel to the shoreline, a phenomenon known as longshore drift. Whilst at the groyne, we tried walking to its edge... a bad idea with the strong winds! Let us know with the #whistlestop_australia or in the comments below if your local beach has a groyne, or whether you've used one before, they are often great vantage points for ocean fishing.
