A year ago if you asked me to bench over 100lbs and squat and deadlift over 200lbs, I would have laughed at you. A year ago, I thought I was happy with myself, but I really wasn’t. I hated seeing myself in the mirror. I went from being 115lb in high school to almost 160lbs after I stopped running cross country. I didn’t recognize myself anymore. I started to date my first girlfriend freshman year of college and finally do something that made me happy despite what society thinks. I was tired of trying to be straight to please others and finally just wanted to be happy myself. Finally, I thought I was starting to become happy again until my relationship of a year all came crashing down this fall, but instead of letting the relationship run me down I decided to channel that negative energy into something positive; that’s when I discovered powerlifting. Powerlifitng has truely helped me restore confidence in myself and honestly don’t know whether I would be here or not without it. Moral of the story is: life will get rough at times, but it’s how you handle each situation which can ultimately make you a better person. Challenge yourself and when you think about giving up remember why you started.
