Wow... This was disappointing.
When I heard that Duncan Jones, the director of "Moon" and "Source Code" would be doing a noir, futuristic, sci-fi, Blade Runner esque film as his next project my expectations were relatively high. However I have absolutely no idea where to start with this film because it is definitely not what I expected. The directing from Jones is fairly good from start to finish. Throughout the film now and then there are some great long panning shots that show the setting of the film extremely well. Apart from that its not mind blowing but there is nothing wrong with the directing. The cinematography is fairly good as well. Alexander Skarsgård, is okay as the mute bartender and he carries the film pretty well, although he isn't all that good. Paul Rudd and Justin Theroux are both good in their weird roles that are extremely strange, but they do the best they can. The rest of the cast is all ok its just the three mentioned are slightly better.
Those are the good things about this, and even then they aren't that good! Overall, this film is aimless, pointless, bland and flat. We spend most of the film with the main character looking for his girlfriend in the most boring way, going from location to location, learning bit by bit. But it isn't interesting, it isn't fun, it isn't action packed, it isn't even dramatic, funny or anything. Just lifeless and hollow, there are so many side stories involving pedophilia, murder and the mafia.
That end up going NOWHERE, literally things happen then are forgotten about so quickly.
The film "Moon" and this are now connected which at first was really cool to see Sam Rockwell on the TV screens. However I think its very insulting on the greatness of the film "Moon" to reference it and connect them to this bland shit.
