28.2 miles in the bank on Saturday. Here's to the team that keeps on coming through, and this community who keeps showing up. Love y'all. The desert better look out. Speed Project - five weeks out. ·
Big weekend here as my son turns 6! Was up way too late making the cake (check the stories) and up way too early. Luckily just an easy run today and pushing the long run to tomorrow. Easy 10k to start the day. Felt good, legs feel fresh. Also feel terrified that my first race is next weekend 😬😬
Off to a birthday party where I can eat some of my anxiety away 😂 🎂 🍕
March 30, 2017
This was the last day I managed to do a tempo run where I didn’t pull up because I couldn’t handle it. For the record, my tempo runs are usually done at HM pace, so it’s not all out or anything.
Have I had strong runs, heck, some amazing races since then? Absolutely! But tempo wasn’t part of the plan after March last year and there was a greater focus on running at Marathon pace.
When I finally did try again, it was July. I tried the exact same one I tried today. 10k with 6k tempo. For my American friends, we’re talking 3.75mi of tempo. I couldn’t do it. As I tried week after week, the amount I could handle got less and less.
With that in the back of my mind, I headed out for a tempo run today. Again, it started good and I felt strong. I blame the tail wind. Every km was slower than the last. Granted, the first was probably too fast, but only the first 3 were acceptable (splits in the stories).
However, as it got hard, I wanted to quit. I wanted to pull up. And then I remembered that date. March 30. There’s been way too much pulling up since then. That quitting muscle has gained too much fitness in the midst of health struggles. I didn’t finish as strong as I would like, but I finished and it was respectable.
For those of you who look at me and think “wow, he’s fast” know that there’s struggles no matter what speed you’re going. As a @mind.over.matter.athlete we are constantly reminded to SILENCE THE ENEMY WITHIN. If I’m gonna get sub 3 in my marathon, that enemy is gonna have to take a few punches to the mouth over the next few weeks 👊👊

With every day I‘m getting more excited. It‘s an honour to be able to run the Tokyo Marathon on Sunday! The city is amazing, the people so nice and the expo was the best organized I‘ve ever seen! Really looking forward to experience everything yet to come. 🇯🇵☺️👌🏽
5 months ago the adventure #tokyomarathon2018 started.
Now it’s less than 36 hours to go until the most exciting part of this adventure starts.
The present moment is all you have.
It’s incredibly powerful to log off. To give yourself a chance to shut down all the ambient noise of life and listen to your own sound of music.
Going to the mountains, going high and going far is my happy place. Bringing solitude back with me to the city. So I can focus on the big picture and the important things in life.
And just like that, I could finally find enough courage to run well again. To trust. In my training, with no distractions.
Last night’s killer tempo session left me inspired. For the first time in months my marathon pace felt good. I relaxed into it instead of fighting the pace.
My own sound of music? ‘Your inner strength is your outer foundation.’
Today I really liked running for about 1/2 my run and I really didn't like it for the rest. Whether or not I go on a morning run is not based on whether or not I'm gonna like being out there. It's just what I do when I wake up. My habits are based on my goals, not the weather. My actions are based on the future, not how I feel in the present.
More than just running bridges, it's about building community. TTB is what brought me into the NYC run scene. It wasn't the crazy fast race that pulled me in, it was seeing all these different people come together to make something special happen.·
Come hang out with us one last time on the treads, it's sure to be a party.·

That feeling when 800’s don’t go your way again 🙄
Ultimately, the trick is to be thankful that I can runs. 800s didn’t go well for me today, but they felt better than last time and I did more of them. So both are positive. Last time I felt a cold coming on, today I think I’m battling an infection from my surgery. Neither are prime conditions, but no excuses.
Splits are in the stories and for anyone more interested in my surgery, and what I’ve been dealing with the last few months, link is in the bio. Might be a bit TMI, you’ve been warned 😂😂
