#timelapsevideo flying home to spend time with my family and Pepper gal, our 12 yo #dobie who has lymphoma. She’s on meds and not in pain but is not with us much longer. *
When I got home she got up to greet me and fell down. I could hear her labored breathing and it was scary. I lay down with her and started to cry. *
Our animals our so precious. They are family, best friends, and intimate companions. Pepper was my shoulder to cry on after my last break up. I was home for the holiday and could not talk about it but she was a comfort. I lay next to her then as I do now. Spooning her. Crying. Surrendering to and in awe of the raw emotions that connecting with an animal can evoke. *
I pet her. If I stop to type this out, she signals she wants more touch. Like she always does. A glutton for affection. I laugh and cry. I need 4 hands with her. 2 for her, even 3 if she can getaway with it, and 2 (or 1) for me. *
This is new to me. I was not here when my parents said good bye to Cracker, Pepper’s sister. I was not around when my grandfather passed. I grieved them both but was not present for their last days. I am lucky this time. I feel it is a privilege. Sean comes home on Sunday. I hope he gets this privilege too. *
