ENGAGEMENT RING TALES: MILA JOVOVICH
We LOVE when people make untraditional choices when it comes to a ring they’ll wear forever. It shows a side of their personality we may have otherwise never known. Such is the case with Milla Jovovich.
The model and actress met her now hubby, Paul W.S. Anderson on set of her film Resident Evil which he directed in 2002. He proposed to her the next year with a pretty unusual yet spectacular engagement ring. The ring, designed by Neil Lane, was heavily inspired by late 19th century motifs. It features three center stones, but unlike most trilogy rings, these are set vertically. The center diamond is a colorless cushion cut, while the top and bottom provide a burst of color. One is a fancy yellow and the other a pinkish-brown. The white diamond is bezel set in platinum, matching the platinum leaf shaped shoulders covered in diamonds. The colored diamonds are bezel set in yellow gold, matching the shank.
We imagine it was a challenge to match a wedding band to such an interesting shaped ring so she eventually switched her engagement ring to her right hand. The day before their Beverly Hills wedding in 2009, they remembered they needed wedding bands and rushed off to a last minute appointment with Lane. He created their matching solid yellow gold rings overnight, and they picked up the rings a couple hours before their ceremony (and trust me when I say this happens more often than I care to think about!).
Design and creation of first sketches
All precious stones are unique in their nature and they all deserve special attention and exclusive design. The sketch perfectly highlights the vivid colour and shape of the stone - oval sapphire 18,04 ct royal blue GRS.
