Having so much fun getting this piece going tonight! Painting on this scale starts to feel more like dancing - moving around the canvas and making big sweeping strokes. Add in the bright colors, and it’s all the things I love about painting.❤️
It’s been a great few days with the boys. The weather has behaved, and we’ve gotten to spend a little time outside. Grateful for the little things tonight.

#Artstew52 prompt 4/52: Fragile
The town I grew up in is called Mariposa. It was named after the early settlers saw the Monarch butterflies in their hordes. I remember seeing a field of Monarchs on milkweed near my home about 35 years ago. The Monarch butterfly mass migration no longer comes through Mariposa.
Since the 80s the Monarch population in California has decreased about 95%. It's thought a combination of pesticides, land use and climate change are to blame.
So many fragile things are depending on us taking appropriate stewardship of the earth.
But I guess being lonely fits me

We got a foot of snow yesterday. Today all the schools were cancelled and Ryan and I both worked from home so we could take turns working and watching kids. It was a frustrating day. It was frustrating trying to get work done when the kids were wound up because of the snow. It was frustrating trying to get anywhere because our driveway was plowed in and our cars hate the snow. The only one not frustrated today was Murphy, who decide that he’s now a polar bear and wants to live outside 🤣. But at one point, Becca turned to me and said, “when you go to night night, the moon goes with you.” She spoke of “night night” not as a state of unconsciousness, but as a physical place you go when you close your eyes. And the moon as a best friend who follows along with you on the adventure. This evening I took a few minutes to work on my daily art page. I wanted to capture the idea Becca had planted in my head. I chose to use watercolors because, like a snow day, they can be frustrating and make me feel that I have no control. But it’s not about perfect. It’s about capturing the magic of a moment and remembering to someday travel to a mystical city called Night Night with my best friend Moon. Thank you Becca, this just may end up finding a place in my book ❤️. 23/365.
Talking with a client about my work, she asked an interesting question: “How does one of you paintings come to be; what is the process?” For me, a painting begins days or weeks before any paint is squeezed from the tube. I am constantly making mental notes of everything that catches my attention; an intriguing color combination; negative space; an interesting conversation. I carry these thoughts around, filtering through them and reorganizing them into ideas that can be put onto the canvas. When I start painting, I’m intertwining these ideas with other memories of life occurrences. My paintings, although landscapes, unfold like a story. I want my viewers to recall their own life story as they wander through my work and reconnect with something familiar.

I love the way my paint cup looks after so many years of using it..
[day 23/365] Scared, nervous, so, so excited. Feeling ALL the emotions. Can’t believe that I’ll be competing in my first draw brawl (aka art battle) this FRIDAY at @dartgalleryns! And on top of that an art gallery WAS ON MY VISION BOARD for 2018 😱😱😱 #ÉlanaCamilleCreates365#ÉlanaCamilleCreates
I have been so excited to share this ridiculously picturesque house that has made me realize how much I need to up my own landscaping game. How beautiful is this northern home?! Swipe over to see details like a little lamp, flowers, and brickwork around the door. By far one of my favorite architecture pieces from 2017. [watercolor, 8x10in]
I flew in from a business conference in Las Vegas last night, and I’ve been running on fumes ever since. I’ll be disappearing into my studio to work on a set of paintings for an upcoming show, so if you don’t hear from me for awhile......
If you’re wanting a commission, I only have a couple of spots left for February, as the rest is reserved for show prep. Send me a message or email at [email protected] 🎉

little piece of a work in progress that I’m feeling excited about 🤗
I’ve got a handful of works in the studio at the midway point right now, and space (as in outer) and spaciousness seem to want to make themselves know in just about all of them. Same word, different thing. But with similar feelings. I’m digging what it’s creating 💫

I'm pretty sure this is a weeping cherry tree...I'll check back in the spring 🌸
Day 15 in #21daysinmyartworld by @taraleaver. How I name my paintings... Let me count the ways! After people I know, lines from songs, a memory, something cheeky, literal of what the subject is, or even just a numbered series. Most of the time names come while I'm in the process of painting. It's not a challenge for me, I just let the painting do the talking! 😜

EXCITING NEWS! 😱 📣 In two weeks from today, I'll be on my way to Mexico to paint live at the @thepalmcabaret while the amazing Amy Armstrong and the Hitmen play rockin tunes! I can't wait for these shows and I'm honored to be part of them. It's been my dream to travel and share my passion with as many people as possible and I'm blessed to have this opportunity to do so. 🌈 It's so snowy and cold here today so I'm thinking rainbow-tastic bright thoughts and hoping it melts soon. Off to dig out my drive and post your art today too 💌 Is it as snowy where you are? 🌨️❄️
Hi guys! I’m excited to announce I’ll be taking over @carveouttimeforart this Friday. Planning to give a tour of my studio and try to answer some questions I get frequently, such as what paints and brushes do I use and how do I find time to run an art biz with 4 kids. Hope you can join me!
