Superman #39 by DC comics. Written by Peter J. Tomasi & Patrick Gleason, art by Barry Kitson.
Is this the same Peter Tomasi and Patrick Gleason that did the first dozen or so issues of Superman Rebirth? It can’t be. What’s happened to this book? I’m of the opinion that I should never be overly negative of creators as they’re actually out there doing something creative while I’m just sat here on my couch critiquing/ criticising. But this issue is pushing that policy. I think I actually got diabetes from this story it was so sweet.
Superman and Green Lantern take a group of, I assume, terminally ill kids to the Justice League watch tower where the rest of the team basically act like the Starlight foundation. While there’s nothing inherently wrong with that it’s just too cheesecake for my liking. I’m not actually sure what the point of a story like this is. To show that these heroes inspire? To show that they’re role models? To show that kids love this team? It may be all those things but this entire issue felt like the left over idea of a tired brain. Actually it felt like a left over story, used just to fill in time till the next event. When this series started it had some of the best Rebirth stories around. The issue where the Kent family visit a country carnival is still one of my favourite Superman stories. It’s been a long fall from grace for this series that used to be a must read for me. -
I’ve been reading Sherman Alexie’s new memoir this week, and it is SO good and SO sad. After reading his semi-autobiographical young adult novel, my students and I were left to wonder about his own experiences on a Native American reservation. The way he describes his childhood, specifically his relationships with his parents and siblings, will make you laugh and cry, sometimes at the same time. I’ve never considered myself a huge poetry fan, but his poems are equal parts beautiful and thought-provoking. Even though the content is hard to read at times, I am thankful for this read. Have you read any memoirs lately? 📚
I DIDN'T LIKE THIS BOOK AT ALL
I finally finished this book like 2 days ago. I started it in beginning of July, full of hopes and very attracted to this idea of travelling the world, by bike, with very few money and as the authors were in their 20s (it's means a lot to me, check @larazure if you don't know why 🙈) Well anyway, I really didn't like this book. It was a struggle for me to finish it, and I was always reading other books in between. Although the writing of #sylvaintesson and #alexandrepoussin is amazing, and always full of poetry... these guys were full of anger, and negativity, and the entire book seems to be made to show how awful is the world. Really.
After a few pages I started to think just "man, with such a spirit, just go back to France now, you don't add any value right now". So yeah, that's the first time it happened, but I actually really struggled finishing this book, because so much negativity for the deeply positive person I am, was too much.
Now it's time to switch to another book, and another story.

"Коли ви стомитеся бути тим, ким ви не є, знайдіть собі розвагу та радість життя. З часом ви відкриєте, що це принесе вам щось більше, аніж просто втіху. Це дасть вам відчуття життя." Слова не мої, але в них є суть...📖😊 #книга📖 #book#думки
