A local crew, Swimming Women, ran the Margaret River Ocean Swim on the weekend. The conditions were perfect and the event was well attended.
Great fun to shoot.
Huge thanks to @swimmingwomen for letting me get out there with my camera to capture the mood.
As always the @whiteelephantcafe supported the event and provided necessary coffee and muffins for post event personal rewards.
Thanks to @waterpatrol_australia for keeping an eye out and for letting me use their ski as an impromptu camera workbench!
Hard not to love @margaretriver#summerinthesouthwest#edition2018
Winner’s at both ends.
Two statements from the Margaret River Ocean Swim.
The solo swimmer, in the underwater shot, was first across the line. Where I took this capture was about thirty metres from the finish. He went by me like a freight train. Plenty of gusto left. The next person was only a metre or two behind but it may as well have been a kilometre. Thundering
The shot with the lady and her guide dog was taken about ten minutes after every one else had finished the swim. She’d only just completed the course and her guide dog who met her at the waters edge and was leading her through the bunting to the finish line.
Talk about taking on the challenges of life.
Three cheers to all the winners (all the participants). @swimmingwomen@whiteelephantcafe@margaretriver@waterpatrol_australia
🇦🇺Not all aussies surf. Do I surf? Not really but I am trying to take advantage of it in Australia where we have beautiful beaches. Growing up on the Gold Coast, I’ve been surrounded by beach culture and have always enjoyed the beach. A new way to enjoy it is surfing. Learning to surf is a physically tiring and frustrating process. Everything about it makes me feel like a fraud. Forget about standing up, I still don’t even feel comfortable carrying the board into the water. Yes there is a way to carry your board and I question whether I’m holding it correctly! I have stood up on the board. Several times actually and it’s great but I’ve stopped caring so much about whether or not I stand up. I focus on enjoying being in the water. It’s one of the places where I think the least. It’s just wave after wave. Managing the board. Determining where I’m going to try and catch a particular wave. It’s good if you have a busy mind and are constantly thinking. There’s no phone to distract you either! Aussies that don’t surf, I recommend giving it a try and don’t tell me that you’re too old cause there old people out there shredding! 🤙 🇪🇸No todos los australianos surfean. ¿Yo surfeo?
