What is something that embarrassed you about your parents when you were a teen that you now realize is stupid? When i was a kid, my dad would blast mariachi/ranchero music in the car and do this crazy yell. He doesn’t look stereotypically Mexican (he is) and i was so worried people would think he was the original Rachel Dolezal. While i still am not a regular on the ranchero circuit, i really appreciate the perspective having parents from two different countries has given me. And mole. And telenovelas. ❤️🇲🇽❤️🇲🇽❤️🇲🇽❤️🇲🇽❤️🇲🇽❤️🇲🇽
New travel post is up, 36 Hours in Sedona. I could stay here weeks, but between momming and work, it’s hard to get away for more than a long weekend sometimes. You too? No worries!! Check out my latest post for what to see, where to hike and how to get your hands on those delicious prickly pear margaritas! Click the link to the post in my bio! 🌵 🌸
Be careful where you step in the desert. It's not just any old dirt...it's alive! And all kinds of organisms live on the surface of the soil. Some are visible by taking a closer look. Others are microscopic. And just one single step off the marked trails can take hundreds of years to repair. If you notice a gray, white, green or black crustlike layer over the rich red land, then there's also a very purposeful layer of algae wrapped around those grains of sand. This intricate network is actually the key to life in the desert. These biological soil crusts that carpet the desert floor protect and nourish the earth, acting like a sponge during rainstorms and soaking up water to release gradually over time. The root-like nature of these crusts keeps the soil from being carried away by the elements. Some might call this miraculous, but it's not. It's a scientific marvel.

Going on this extended photo journey I think over time I've become more negative in my views towards Instagram and companies using Instagram. It can just be hard sometimes honestly. I'm sure some of you other adventure photographers can relate. You come across A page with a large following on Instagram and you take a look at the profile and you just know your photos could fit there. So I've messaged companies professionally asking if there is anyway a collaboration with my photos could help them. And all too often they say sure I would love to use your photos if you give me .... $50, 100, 150 you name it I've seen it. But there are great companies out there trying to help and support photographers. @wayfare.collective is one. I am the first to say I was skeptical at first. I was kind of a hard customer. But you know what once I started to make money talking about wayfare and referring people my attitude changed. And the photo I posted yesterday was featured on their page. They paid me for that!! Thoughts ?
