It was a battle of the Thatcher Rock photos last week! A very close call, but this awesome image by @sangelic22 won in the end and so becomes our pic of the week - well done! 🎉
Let’s kick off the storytelling with this very touching post from @viks_pops - see her original post for more photos of her grandfather...
I’m so in love with my feather tattoo at the moment. I’ve always loved it, when I had it done 5 years ago it was because I was going through a tough time and I needed strength and courage which is what feathers symbolise for me, as well as freedom - there was something, or should I say someone, I needed to break free from at the time and, silly as it sounds, it helped me find the strength to do that. Little did I know I’d need even more strength a few months later when my absolutely amazing Grandad died after a long battle with dementia. Watching him disappear, both physically and mentally, before my eyes was the most heartbreaking thing I’ve ever had to go through. On Monday, it will be 4 years since the bravest man I have ever met left us to be with his wife and his son. I hope you are all happy up there (no doubt Nan is nagging as usual, so normal life has resumed for you both 😂). Not a day goes by when I don’t think about you or miss you Grandad.

Meet the Team
Name: Tim Alsop
Role: There’s nothing he can’t do is the easiest way to say , maybe Master of the Art of Fishmerchantry ;) Bio : (now is everybody sitting comfortably) I knew from an early age that I would end up working in the fishing industry .. As a child I used to hang about with the local fisherman in the Cornish village of Downderry where I spent my childhood .. There began a lifelong love of boats and fishing which has stayed with me to the present day .
I went to sea and worked as a commercial fisherman for some years before settling on a career in the marketing sector of my chosen industry . Over the years I have seen many changes and have been truly privileged to have worked with and supplied some of the finest chefs which this country has produced , some of whom have garnered world wide respect .. new faces arrive on the restaurant scene every year and it still gives me a real buzz when I suddenly realise that I am working with a Chef who is going all the way to the top of his or her profession.. moments of realisation like that are enormously satisfying and make all the hard work seem worthwhile .
My favourite fish undoubtedly is John Dory .. I remember as a child that it had no commercial value .. local fishermen used it as crab pot bait .. how times have changed .. it has a divinely delicate flavour . But be warned ! .. There are hundreds of different species of fish , each of them has a unique flavour .. over cook them and they will end up tasting like "Fish" .. this adage is particularly true with John Dory !
My proudest fish related moment was when my son Fred told me that he would like to become a Fish Merchant and join me in an industry which a lifetime later I still love .
Favourite Band ?
I would have to say The Rolling Stones .. and a little known young band who are going to be massive called
Greta Van Fleet .. who sound like an updated Led Zeppelin .
I have a rare talent cooking up a Paella or at a barbecue (particularly where fish is involved ) and can also spin a good yarn !
The first fish I ever caught ? I can remember it 55 years later like it was yesterday..I was aged 6 on a family fishing trip out of Mevagiss
